Adam Michael Phillips (b. NY 1980)
Guitarist/multi-instrumentalist/producer/engineer Adam Phillips began playing music at a very young age, receiving classical training on violin, piano and saxophone. The son of world-renowned classical solo guitarist, Dr. Robert Phillips, it was no surprise that he gravitated to the guitar in his early teens and focused his efforts on honing the family craft. Surrounded by world-class musicians throughout his childhood and teenage years, he took to his instruments and theory naturally and his proficiency progressed quickly.
He attended Nassau BOCES Long Island High School for the Arts before moving to Central Florida. Playing in numerous local bands and touring nationally from the age of 19, he gained much experience on stage and on the road. In 2001, Phillips was introduced to the "bizarro metal" band Indorphine, with whom he recorded a full-length album and toured the U.S. with the likes of Shinedown, Bobaflex, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, and Psychostick. Performing at landmark venues such as CBGB, House of Blues and Whiskey a Go-Go, as well as showcasing in front of A-list producers and celebrities, the band continued to wow audiences with their unconventional blend of progressive metal and comedy.
In 2007, Phillips left the band and shortly thereafter found himself as the lead guitarist for country artist Ryan Weaver, once again playing alongside former Indorphine bandmate Tanner Keegan. Leaving that position in 2011 to join New York hardcore band Pro-Pain, Phillips began touring Europe and South America, sharing festival stages on both continents with legendary acts such as Mastodon, Slayer, Iron Maiden, Exodus, Megadeth, Judas Priest, Rob Zombie and Ozzy Ozbourne, among many others. Adam's aggressive lyrical solos and unique writing style can be heard on the last three Pro-Pain albums, all of which have received critical acclaim.

There was a connection from the moment I laid eyes on Vola's axes. You know that feeling when you see a guitar and your pupils turn into cartoon hearts? Yeah, that. That was exactly what happened.
Playing the guitars deepened that instant infatuation. These are truly some of the finest instruments available today. Solid workhorse specs and superb aesthetic design make for love at first note.
Meeting Shawn and Greg at NAMM 2019 was an incredibly warm and welcoming experience, and these guys made me feel like family from day one. That vibe is something that can be overlooked or even lost in business, and these guys make it a point to never lose touch with that fundamental foundation of their company. They treat their artists as they would their brothers, sisters, nephews, nieces, etc. and I am proud to call them MY family and to play their fantastic instruments.
The respect is mutual and it's a badge I wear with pride.
