I have been a 4 string bass player for most of my 45+ playing career. My three prior experiments with 5ers, while good basses, always fell short mainly because of the B string. In order for me to fully embrace a 5 string bass as a main instrument, every note on the B needs to be "right" -- I'm not interested in the idea of playing a 5 string as a 4 string with 5 extra low notes -- I want the whole fingerboard to be "true" and available.

Well I took a chance on this Vola ZVA 5 string - I just had a feeling. And it's a keeper. I ordered on a Monday and the bass arrived in NYC direct from Japan, three days later. I pulled it out of the box and out of the more-than- decent semi-rigid gig bag: it was perfectly in tune and the setup was immaculate. The workmanship/craftsmanship is top notch. The intonation is outstanding: the intonation on every note of the B string is stable and true (no weird "chorusing" or "warbling"). And it's a very comfortable bass, 9.2 lbs. as advertised and virtually no neck dive .

I could go on, but this is a highly quality instrument -- every aspect is well-thought out and top notch. And oh yes: it sounds great, too. A modern jazz bass.

Bravo, Vola - and thank you!

This is the very first time I've ever bought a musical instrument online without first trying one or even seeing one prior to parting with money.

I have watched many, many thousands of YouTube reviews on a whole host of our

What an incredibly well designed bass guitar this is. I've not played every bass in this price range, but I've played a few, much more valuable brands and models.

I've also handled, played and owned many, many guitars made in Japan. Regardless of price, they've all been excellent, so I don't know why I'm so surprised!

This Vola is such a comfortable instrument. Yes, you can easily adjust the saddle height, the strings, the intonation and the neck relief on any guitar and make a big difference to almost all guitars that fashion, so the feel could be tailor made just for you, within time confines of the components and the neck and body dimensions.

There's even scope for more in depth modifications like the neck angle if neccasary for a more specific setup on these types of instruments, like neck rolling and fret dressing etc, but in this case, nothing needs doing.

This Vola will just keep getting better and better, the more In play in, which, because it's so ergonomical, I will be.

I haven't even mentioned the tonal qualitues of the acoustic sound, the dynamics of the pickup configuration and the circuitry yet. It's safe to say, I can get everything I'll ever need.

Thank-you to everyone involved in this project. I'm gonna have to go a buy a guitar now!

Nothing but praise here. An all around great low end tool. They didn't skimp out on the QC or fret work either. Great job. I would love one in black or purple, though.

I’ve had the candy red 4 string for a couple weeks now and feel I can give it a fair review. First off the finish is beautiful! Second the neck feels and plays incredibly well. It is the easiest fretting neck I’ve ever had with low action and was perfectly tuned when I received it and it shipped from Hong Kong. The active eq is very strong and the pots have mid way stops which is a nice option to have. Overall for the price it is way better than other higher priced brands. The only thing that bothers me and the reason for the 4 stars is it has a little bit of neck dive. Not much but enough to notice. Would I buy again? Would I recommend to a friend? You better believe I would! Thank you Vola for making a great instrument for a great price!
