Julien Rosenthal

Julien Rosenthal is a French guitarist whose musical journey began at the age of six, influenced by a family steeped in music. His early exposure to diverse genres laid the groundwork for a distinctive playing style that blends the intensity of metal with the soulful grooves of funk, blues, and gospel. A graduate of the Music Academy International (MAI), Rosenthal quickly made a name for himself, earning a diploma with the distinction “Best Hope at the MAI.” His dynamic approach to the guitar, marked by a fluid mix of melody and technical precision, caught the attention of the progressive metal scene, leading him to join Atlantis Chronicles in 2017.
Since stepping into his role with Atlantis Chronicles, Rosenthal has been instrumental in reshaping the band’s sound, infusing their progressive death metal framework with unexpected melodic layers and soulful undertones. His influence is particularly evident on their 2022 album Nera, where he melds intricate acoustic passages with crushing riffs and ethereal textures. Tracks like “Full Fathom Five” showcase his ability to balance aggression with nuance, pushing the band’s sonic boundaries while staying rooted in their core metal ethos. Through his work with Atlantis Chronicles, Rosenthal continues to carve out a reputation as a guitarist unafraid to blur genre lines while maintaining a signature sound.
Outside of the stage, Rosenthal is a passionate educator and gear enthusiast. He shares his knowledge through lessons at MAI and guitar-focused content on platforms like YouTube, where he dissects everything from neosoul grooves to complex metal riffs. In 2022, he collaborated with Vola Guitars to launch his signature model, the OZ JRM J1, a guitar that merges modern versatility with vintage aesthetics. Its shell pink finish, gold hardware, and versatile HSS pickup configuration reflect Rosenthal’s genre-blending approach and commitment to expressive, dynamic playing. Whether he’s teaching, recording, or performing live, Julien Rosenthal remains a compelling voice in the world of contemporary guitar.
