Ryusei

Born in Adachi-ku and raised in Suginami-ku, Tokyo, Ryusei’s journey into music began with a twist of fate. Originally a passionate basketball player, a knee injury during his freshman year of high school shifted the course of his life. While searching for a new passion, a former middle school friend invited him to join a band—Ryusei took up the bass, intentionally choosing a path different from his guitar-playing friend. That decision would spark a lifelong devotion to music.

His earliest musical influences were homegrown: the iconic Japanese rock band ELLEGARDEN, introduced by a friend in middle school, ignited his love for band music. This gateway led Ryusei to explore the roots of ELLEGARDEN’s inspiration—Western rock acts like Weezer, and eventually British staples such as Oasis, Arctic Monkeys, and The 1975. These influences deeply shaped his melodic and rhythmic sensibilities. In more recent years, Ryusei has drawn creative influence from genre-pushing female pop artists like Sabrina Carpenter and Dua Lipa, adding layers of stylistic nuance to his work.

As an artist, Ryusei cites The 1975 as a core influence—not just musically, but visually and philosophically. He admires their ability to merge sleek aesthetics with evocative live performances and conceptual artistry, all while maintaining infectious, bass-driven grooves.  From 2013 to 2017, Ryusei served as the bassist for FADE LEAVES, an indie four-piece pop rock band known for their bright, refreshing sound that occasionally veered into more intense, message-driven territory. Active in Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka, FADE LEAVES released two mini-albums and two singles, and were a staple of the underground Japanese live scene.

In 2018, Ryusei officially joined the acclaimed band THE SIXTH LIE, known for their genre-bending “future rock” style—a blend of high-energy rock with electronic textures, reminiscent of acts like Crossfaith and ONE OK ROCK. The band’s forward-thinking sonic palette has earned them an international audience, performing at JAPAN EXPO events across Europe and Asia. Notably, THE SIXTH LIE gained wide recognition for performing the opening themes of the popular anime series “Golden Kamuy”, contributing songs to both the first and third seasons. To date, the band has released 13 singles and 1 full-length album, available on major streaming platforms.

In May 2025, Ryusei expanded his creative identity with the launch of his apparel brand "euphoria", inspired by the artistic ethos of The 1975. The brand merges music, fashion, and lifestyle, showcasing Ryusei’s vision of expression beyond the bass guitar.  Now as an official Vola Guitars artist, Ryusei continues to refine his sound and visual identity, uniting his international influences and Japanese roots with a modern, genre-fluid approach. Whether on stage or behind the scenes, Ryusei embodies the spirit of evolution—always moving forward, always in pursuit of something new.
